I had been playing with my spanking new Nokia E71 for the past couple of days and all I could say is – “Simply the best.” Of course that is based on what I am looking for in a smart phone. I have now retired the old but reliable Nokia E61i in favor of this slimmer and elegantly designed smart phone.
The following are just some of the features I really love about the E71:
1. At 4.5 in x 2.39 in x .39 in, the E71 is even smaller than the iPhone and definitely a lot smaller than my old E61i.
2. The QWERTY keyboard is a must for texting.
3. Transferring all files ( including text, contacts, notes, and schedules) from the E61i to the new phone was a cinch using Bluetooth and the SYNC application built into the Symbian S60 3rd edition OS of the E71. In fact, in less than five minutes all the data from the old phone have been flawlessly migrated.
4. The sleek design and the metal casing make the E71 feel very solid in hand.
5. Having the same OS as the E61i insures that my favorite softwares ( advance call manager and the sms spam manager by WebGate) will also work in the E71.
6. The one touch keys and the Home Screen applications are fully customizable allowing one to assign all their favorite apps. And if that is not enough, there is a second home screen where one could assign a second set of applications.
7. The battery lasts about as long (4 days of normal use) if not a bit better than the E61i. I could not say for sure since I’ve had the E71 only for 2 days.
8. GPS receiver is built-in. It also comes with a much improved calendar, Quickoffice.
9. Connectivity is superb with wifi, Bluetooth, and HSDPA.
10. To save on running memory, a built-in Task Manager is accessible by pressing the Home key for a few seconds.
I have yet to play with all the other features like the 3.2 mp camera, the GPS, multiscanner, and wireless presenter. Give me a few more days and I will tell you my experience. But so far, I find the E71 to be the ‘perfect’ phone for my needs. It will now be my constant companion together with my 2nd phone – the Samsung i780.
